I’ll start with saying, this book is more like a mystery novel than a shoot ‘em up action space cowboy novel. Knowing that, don’t get me wrong this is still packed with action. However no where near the levels of book three, “Abaddon’s Gate.”. The resolution comes, but you must wait a bit for it. I would say if you haven’t read a 1000+ page epic (see The Stormlight Archive) then Cibola Burn is probably a little slower than you might be used to.

Funny enough, I actually rated this as one of my favorite books in the series. To put it into perspective my personal rating up to this point in the series would be 1. Leviathan Wakes, 2. Cibola Burn, 3. Abaddon’s Gate and 4. Caliban’s War. Perhaps, that’s because I like a good old fashioned space mystery. It reminds me a bit of the way Issac Asmov’s, “The Robot Series” feels. Not that the plots or writing style are similar, just the mystery and isolation of the characters. Only a little though.

Overall, I’d highly recommend this book. I know it got lackluster reviews on goodreads and amazon reviews comparatively to other books. However, I disagree with a lot of those reviews.
